Wheat is the world’s largest crop, with over 705 tons (640 million metric tonnes) produced annually. The United Nations estimates that 20 percent of all the calories consumed by the human race come from wheat.
As the world population increases, mankind needs increasingly more food and plant breeders have an important role in making this possible.
Limagrain Group is one of the world’s leading breeders of improved cereal cultivars. The Group’s newest subsidiary, Limagrain Cereal Seeds (LCS) is dedicated to developing new varieties of wheat for the world’s 4th largest wheat market, the United States. Our dedicated team of researchers aim to combine the advantages of modern technology with the traditional principles of sustainable agriculture to develop the types of varieties that today’s farmers will need tomorrow.
With this combination of laboratory skills and field experience, LCS breeders are able to reduce the development time for a new variety from the traditional 10-12 years to about 5-6 years.
